Conference Timeline
Before the Conference
Background Papers

In March, the Domain Areas and the Topics will be released

Background Papers will be provided by the Academics Department to provide more information and scope on the various topics
Registration (April to May)

When participants are signing up in teams for SUPC, they are required to indicate which domain area/topics they prefer (helps in assigning a balanced number of teams for each area)
Pre-Conference Policy Briefs
-
Participants will be required to submit a one-page Policy Brief prior to the Conference, detailing their initial thoughts on their allocated Topic and the potential issue(s) they intend to address in their eventual Policy Proposal by Mon, 19 June @ 2300 hrs (GMT+8).

Opening Ceremony

Official start of proceedings for SUPC 2024

Guest Panel to kick-start discussions related to the conference theme, as well as the various domain areas and topics
Policy Proposal Workshop
-
Training will be provided to the participants on how to write a good and effective policy proposal, which clearly outlines their key issues and propositions/solutions.
Topic Workshops on "Singapore: Everyday Diversity"

Concurrent workshops conducted by academics/industry experts/government officials to dive deeper into the first domain area, the various topics and real-life context/challenges of crafting public policies within this area
Topic Workshops on “ASEAN: Reaching Across Borders”
-
Concurrent workshops conducted by academics/industry experts/government officials to dive deeper into the second domain area, the various topics and real-life context/challenges of crafting public policies within this area
Start of Competition

Marks the beginning of the Competition phase for SUPC
-
Any policy proposal/presentation materials prepared prior to this will not be accepted for submission, in the interest of fairness. Teams can still conduct prior research/brainstorming.
Conference Day 2 /
Round 2
(23 June 2024)
Round 1: Policy Proposal Submission

Teams will be required to submit their Policy Proposals and presentations to the Academics Department by Sun, 25 June @ 10:00am.
Round 1: Quarter Finals Judging
-
Teams will be required to present their Policy Proposals before panels of the Academics Department and invited Graduate Students
-
At this stage, the proposals will only be evaluated for and feedback will be given on their formatting and general content
-
From here, the top 6 teams of each domain area (12 teams in total) will be selected to participate in Round 2
Conference Day 3 / Rounds 2 & 3

Public Policy Trivia!

Eliminated teams will compete in a Public Policy Trivia game on Kahoot! to win a total of $20 in Grab vouchers.

There will be a total of 6 rounds, with each round representing one of the SUPC 2023 topics.
Round 2: Semi-Finals Judging

Teams will be required to present their Policy Proposals before panels of academics and industry experts
-
At this stage, the proposals will be strictly evaluated for and feedback given on the effectiveness and feasibility of their propositions/solutions
-
From here, the top 3 teams of each domain area (6 teams in total) will be selected to participate in Round 3
Round 3: Finals & Closing Ceremony

At the start of the Closing Ceremony, a Minister (GOH) will be invited to give a keynote speech on the conference theme/domain areas, before proceeding to the Finals
-
Finally, teams will be required to present their Policy Proposals before the final judging panel consisting of senior government officials, renowned academics & industry experts
-
At this stage, not only will the proposals be scrutinised for their effectiveness/feasibility, but also whether it is actionable given real-life contexts and by relevant government bodies/organisations
-
From here, the overall top 3 teams (regardless of domain area) will be selected and crowned as the winning teams of SUPC 2023, and rewards presented to them by the GOH on stage

Complete a feedback form to help improve the next iteration of SUPC.
